The Hair Growth Cycle.

Hair grows from the follicle underneath the skin and gains nourishment needed for growth from the blood vessels. Each hair passes through three stages in its life cycle and every hair is at a different stage of this cycle

Stage One: The Anagen Stage

This is the active growing period of a hair follicle and is nourished by the blood vessels. When a hair follicle is clogged or when circulation is compromised in any way, hair growth is impeded or won’t be able to grow at all. On average 90% of a person's hair is in this stage which typically lasts about 2 to 6 years.

Stage Two: The Catagen Stage

This is the brief transitional stage of hair growth where hair follicles prepare themselves for the resting phase. During this period, follicles detach from the blood vessels and blood supply is cut off. This stage only lasts a few weeks.

Stage Three : The Telogen Stage

This is the resting and shedding period of the hair cycle. At the end of this period, older hairs that have finished their life will fall out and cell division is again stimulated , producing new hair and the growth cycle starts again. This stage usually lasts 3 to 4 months.

Over time and as we get older the Anagen stage decreases causing the hair to become weaker and thinner after each cycle. It is important to ensure your diet is rich in specific nutrients to maintain healthy hair and scalp health. Hair loss, shedding, stunted growth, balding and scalp irritations occur when the natural growth cycle becomes disrupted; particularly when either the anagen phase shortens or the telogen phase increases.

Antidote provides your body with the nutrients, minerals and vitamins needed to nutritionally support and maintain your hair and scalp health – it is through the daily absorption of these vitamins that the quality and strength of hair growth in the Anagen phase can be improved.

As aforementioned lush and shiny hair is a reflection of overall internal health – a reflection of our best selves. It is important to note whilst there are some hair and scalp issues mentioned above that aren’t necessarily in our control there are however some #HealthyHairHabits that can in turn excel your hair health journey.

Here are some "Healthy Hair Habits" to incorporate along side your daily dose of THE HAIR ENHANCER:

  • Adequate hydration, keep your intake of water up.

  • Have regular cut/trim visits to your glorified hairdresser to keep split ends at bay

  • Take care of your hair and scalp by using high quality shampoos, conditioners and topical products recommended to you by your hairdresser.

  • Eat a wholesome balanced diet- remembering fresh is best!

  • Don’t over style your hair.

  • Avoid using high heat – over time this weakens your hair.

  • Always use protection! When heat styling be sure to coat and shield your locks to avoid dry brittle mid-lengths and ends.

  • Avoid scalding hot showers as this can weaken your hair and cause scalp irritation and flaking

  • Wear a swimming cap if swimming in pools.

  • Treat yourself! Pop a hydrating mask on once a week or minimally once a month. Just like your skin your hair needs extra hydration from time to time.

  • Relaxation! Take that holiday or time to yourself to unwind – Stress takes a toll not only on your hair but your over all appearance and mental state.
